The Farragut Business Alliance has once again
partnered with the Town of Farragut and Dogwood Arts Festival to host the 3rd
Annual Farragut Art in the Park, presented by TDS. It is a plein air
event, which means painting “in the open air” or outdoors.
This year’s event will feature two days of
painting at various parks and other scenic locations in Farragut. A photography
category has been added, as have more art-related activities for children.
The public is invited to observe as participants paint and shoot
their subjects from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21. They
will be scattered among various Farragut parks and locations, including: Anchor
Park, Berkeley Park subdivision fountain, Bridgemore subdivision entrance,
Campbell Station Park, Farragut Town Hall Memorial Park, Mayor Bob Leonard
Park, McFee Park, the old Hackney Mill and Olde Concord.
Kids’ Art in the Park activities will be held
on Saturday, April 20 from 1-3pm at Campbell Station Park. Youth will enjoy
making Gyotaku fish prints, mini Monets, Tuffula tress and bug art, among other
things. The Amazing Jolie, a silks acrobat, will be performing 20 feet above
the park during the kids’ activities.
Farragut Art in the Park culminates with a
Reception & Gallery Sale at 7pm on Monday, April 29 at The Gallery |
Renaissance Farragut. Hors d'oeuvres will be served and wine will be available
for $3 per glass. Best of Show, First Place and Second Place
paintings and photographs (judged separately) will be awarded cash prizes. The
popular Chef’s Choice will also be named in each category and will be
displayed at Seasons Café.
In addition to plein air and studio pieces of
the participants’, a Steve Black Retrospective will be a part of the exhibit.
Black played a key role in building the event and passed away last year. His
wife, Frankie, will be attending to receive a commemorative gift in his honor
and to witness the awarding of the inaugural Steve Black Memorial Award. Special thanks to Debi Tuttle from the Town Framery for her guidance
and generous assistance with the commemorative memorial gift for Frankie.
